He's GROWINNNNGGG!!!! :-)

HE'S GROWINNNNNG. (ThankyouJesusThankyouJesusThankyouJesus!) As of right this minute, Quattro is still a Small Junior (in the making!) at 15.3. But possibly not for long... Just in the last couple of weeks since that last pic and video were taken, he's gotten all leggy and gangly and butt-high again! I finally remembered to buy a measuring tape and yep, he's grown an INCH and looks like he might keep doing it for a little while longer.

So I probably get to kiss the notion of that luxury townhouse in Florida goodbye, but the up side is I probably get to keep him for ME to ride. :-)))

Keep it coming, Q!

Still auditioning trainers to start him under saddle in the fall and still having "interesting" discussions with the lad about boots. The adventure continues.

  1. Awesome, can Louie start growing now too? I'm still praying for 16.3 lol. Right now we're at 15.3- c'mon Louie! What do I need to feed him? lol He's hardly grown at all since I got him.

  2. Prayer helps. :-) Supposedly they can keep growing until they're six, so you still have some time. I'm AMAZED that Q is growing again - if you look at that last pic, that's a pretty well-balanced horse conformationally, and I REALLY thought that was all I was going to get. I'm unfortunately a LOT bigger than you so I'm really relieved - it's one of the reasons I'm starting him sooooo late; too much weight too early and I'll be injecting his sacroiliac for the rest of his life. :-P I'll send some GROW LOUIE GROW thoughts for you as well as GET BETTER LOUIE thoughts. Sorry to read of your wreck & glad to know things are getting back on track!

  3. This is encouraging, thx Liz!! I am hoping my girlie grows another inch or two as well - she's barely 15.2hh at the moment (just over 3 yrs old). I would be happy with 15.3hh, though - I'm 5'5" and 120 lbs, I really don't need anything bigger or taller! :p

  4. Gidget, Q was just about to turn 3 when I got him and he was a shrimp! I confess (NOW) that my heart sank when he got off the trailer. :-) He went thru one growth spurt this spring and made it to 15.2 and he's now 15.3 with, I think, a bit more to go, 'cause he's all funny-lookin' again. I'll keep sending "GROW" vibes to all y'all!

Q is my first genuine "baby" horse - all my OTTBs were age 6+ so they were already what they were gonna be by the time I got 'em. I'm still learning about this whole growth thang!

  5. Good luck on his growth spurts. I never thought my warmblood would get as big as he did. I got him as a 3 yr. old and he was 16'2, by the time he finished growing he was 17'2. A little big for me, but we managed for a wonderful 15 years together. Keep us posted.

  6. thanks for the grow thoughts! Louie has grown 1 inch since I got him, and he's pretty balanced, though he's always been rather up-hill, withers high. I don't think either of his parents are huge, so I don't know how much more I'll get out of him.

Thanks also for the get well thoughts. He seems to be feeling better, and I wouldn't really call it a wreck, since nothing was really damaged, but more a stupid accident. ;) I'm hoping to get him back on track, we were ready to introduce the cart at the time of the accident. So, a little more work and we'll be back at it again. I really want to get him driving since it's such great conditioning and is so good for his hind end!

  7. Driving is INDEED awesome for the back end. I'll never forget the first time I rode my old TB after he'd been driving for a year: POWER WALK! I was just amazed at the difference!

Didn't mean to cause offense w/ using the word "wreck" - it's carriage driving slang, pretty much any accident is called a "wreck" - less syllables. :-P When he's ready, you might try placing 2 lengths of PVC pipe loosely in a pair of open shaft loops (loose enough so that the pipe drops out if he freaks) and leading him, then driving him. I usually start w/ just one pipe on the near side so that I can yank the pipe out of the loop myself if things go south. Then add the other one. Pay special attention when turning & be sure you do it each way while leading before you try to drive. Once he can do that in the arena, then take him outside & do the same thing on a variety of surfaces - grass, gravel - so he gets used to all the different noises. It's a great way to make them less fearful. Good luck!
